Air-suspension Cayenne and Panamera combine a pneumatic ride-height system with PASM electronic damper control, and some models add PDCC for body roll control. Three systems working together — and a fault in one presents as symptoms in another. Diagnosis here has to be done with a tool that reads all three.

The system used

PASM, PDCC and air suspension — on models: Cayenne 955 / 957 / 958 / 9YA, Panamera 970 / 971, Macan, Cayenne Turbo.

Recurring faults on this brand

  1. Air spring leaks

Common on Cayenne 955 and 957 past year six, and on 958 past year eight.

  2. Suspension compressor

Gradual weakening, usually from an untreated leak. On Cayenne the compressor sits in a dust-exposed location.

  3. PASM solenoids inside the damper

Solenoid failure sets a PASM code and locks the damper at one rate.

  4. PDCC fluid leaks

On equipped models — leaks from the roll-control pump or hoses.

  5. Ride-height sensors

Sensor arms snap or detach and feed false readings.

  6. "Chassis System Failure"

A generic message that needs detailed diagnosis to identify which system is at fault.

Dash messages you'll see

  • Chassis System Failure
  • PASM Failure
  • Level Control Failure
  • PDCC Failure – Drive On

A note from the workshop
On Cayenne and Panamera the strut often combines the air spring and the electronic damper in one unit, so "replace the bag only" isn't available on every model. We verify this during inspection and tell you straight.
