"AIRmatic Malfunction – Stop Vehicle"
This is among the most serious Mercedes suspension messages, and the key words are "Stop Vehicle". It means the system can no longer maintain safe ride height, and continuing to drive can leave the body resting on the tyres or the bump stops.
Likely causes
- Major Airmatic strut leak
The most common cause. A cracked bag loses air faster than the compressor can replace it.
- Compressor failure
Burnt out, or no longer reaching target pressure.
- Large valve block leak
Empties a whole axle quickly.
- Compressor relay
A relatively simple electrical fault that produces the same alarming message.
- Out-of-range height sensor
An impossible reading forces the system to declare a fault.
What to do right now
- Pull over somewhere safe — the message says so explicitly, for good reason
- Don't continue on a long drive even if the car is still at height
- Call us or send a photo of the message on WhatsApp and we'll arrange recovery
- Don't just clear the message and carry on — the system shut down for a reason
