Recurring fault example

Range Rover L405 — 2016

An illustrative example of a case we see regularly — details vary from car to car.

The complaint

Car wouldn't rise at all with a permanent Suspension Fault message. The customer had a quote from another garage to replace all four struts.

What diagnosis shows

Inspection showed the struts were perfectly healthy. The compressor was burnt out, and the root cause was a leaking air line fitting at the left rear that forced the compressor to run until it failed. The air dryer was also moisture-saturated.

The repair

Repaired the air line fitting, fitted an OEM compressor, replaced the air dryer, electronic ride-height calibration, then four-wheel alignment at normal height.

The result

Back to normal operation for far less than the four-strut quote. Turnaround: one day.
